Fillman, Ruby M.
Ruby M. Fillman, 88, of Monmouth died at 2:40 A.M. Monday, April 9, 2007 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
She was born November 20, 1918 in Kewanee, Illinois the daughter of Clarence and Daisy (Atkinson) Goldsmith. She was raised and educated in Kewanee, graduating from Kewanee High School in 1937. Although she was an only child, she grew up with two very special cousins, Bernadine Laub and Lucile Nosalik, and remained very close to them and their families throughout her life. While in Kewanee she worked at the Telephone office and the Boss Work Glove office.
On March 24, 1945, Ruby married the love her life, William Howard Fillman and moved to Monmouth.. Upon moving to the Goddard Farm, Bill and Ruby became close friends with Russell and Elva Jenks and John and Bulah Jenks. They enjoyed attending various events at Warren School and Fairview Center Church. Ruby enjoyed baking for all the various functions and could always be counted on for cookies and angle food cake “from scratch”. A big part of her life with Bill and their son, Steve, was spent participating in the exhibition of “market beef” and “purebred hogs” at the county, state and national levels. Bill died on September 28, 1979
Later in life, Ruby always enjoyed time spent with her son, Steve, daughter in law Heather Fillman; her granddaughter, Kim (Denny) Arnold and great granddaughters, Allison, Jade and Cheyenne all of Muscatine, Iowa. She will be remembered as a wonderful, loving and wise mother and grandmother. She always has a smile and hug (as well as “goodies”) for all her friends and family. Although she had difficulty with Asthma in her later years, she loved spending time with all the Fillmans whenever possible. Thanks to her nephews, Don and Joe Fillman, their wives Anita and Kathy, and niece Cheri Fillman Stanton, she was able to enjoy many of the Fillman “get togethers”.
She was a member of the Fairview Center Church, Larchland Ladies Aid, the Grow and Glow Sunday School Class and the Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
