Mac C. Breed, 96, of Monmouth died at 3:35 P.M. Wednesday, December 05, 2007 at the Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth.
He was born August 11, 1911 in Monmouth, IL, the son of C. Edward and Theo (Watson) Breed. He was reared and educated in Monmouth Schools.
Mac served in the U.S. Army in 1941 and in the U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1945
Mac married Emmy Lou Nussle on May 14, 1942 at Pensocola, FL and she survives.
He was a self-employed painter. He was an avid golfer, having won his first tournament in 1928 . He joined the Monmouth Country Club in 1929 and won many tournaments throughout the years. He and Emmy spent 25 years wintering in Naples, FL where they played golf and fished. He loved to hunt, travel and going on cruises. He also participated in a number bowling of leagues and followed all local high school and college sports.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 136, Monmouth and a lifetime member of the Elks Club.
His family includes his wife Emmy Lou, one son Chuck Breed of Minneapolis, MN, two daughters, Bonnie (Larry) Millage of Bettendorf, IA and Cathy (Larry) Long of LeClaire, IA, Granddaughter, Shelly (Jeff) Munden of Overland Park, Kansas, great granddaughters, Sarah and Samantha Munden, grandson, Scott Powell and special friend, Bev Woods.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be 11:30 A.M. Saturday, December 8, 2007 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel with Rev. Suzanne Geer of the Alpha United Methodist Church. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Monmouth Cemetery. His family will be present to receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service.
