Armstrong, M. Dale

M. Dale Armstrong, 99, of Geneseo, Illinois, formerly of Burgess, Viola, Knoxville, Alexis and Willow Estates of Elgin, died 9:34 P.M. Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Hillcrest Home, Geneseo, IL                    
He was born October 17, 1908 in Little York, Illinois the son of George E. and Margaret (McCartney) Armstrong.  He was raised and educated in Little York, graduating from Aledo High School in1928 and later Monmouth College in 1933.

Dale married Edna Pearl Hamilton in Woodstock, Illinois on January 31, 1938 and she died February 9, 1991,

Dale worked at the Farmall Plant in the Quad Cities for 10 years.  He later became a math and science teacher while at the same time he owned and operated a Hatchery in Viola.  Dale retired from teaching in the Franklin Grove School District in 1974.

Dale began bicycle riding in his 70’s and enjoyed riding his bike until the age of 93.  Following his retirement from teaching, Dale became very interested in Genealogy and published Torfoot of the Brownlees.

He was a member of the Genealogical Society.

Surviving is his two daughters, Margaret (William) Sturm of Geneseo, IL, Janet (Norm) Steffens of Bradenton, FL; 3 grandchildren, Debra (Michael) Rogodzinski of Pound, WI, Eric (Lori) Sturm of Eagle, WI, Beth (Mark Burda) Hanson of Bartlett, IL; 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Hugh Armstrong.

Graveside services will be 11:30 A.M. Monday, January 28, 2008 at Cedar Creek Cemetery, rural Little York, Il with Rev. John Irwin of the Heritage Presbyterian Church officiating.  Friends may call Monday morning at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where visitation with his family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.  Memorials may be given to the Warren County Genealogical Society
