Vaughon, Mabel L.

Mabel Louise Vaughon, 89, of Monmouth, formerly of Kirkwood, Illinois died at 2:05 P.M. Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Monmouth Nursing Home.

She was born December 30, 1918 in Monmouth, Illinois the daughter of William J. and Suzanne (Trowbridge) Grace.  She was reared and educated in Monmouth.

Mabel married Madison Dale Smith in Monmouth on March 3, 1938.  She later married Howard Lee Crain in Macomb on February 28, 1956 and he died July 17, 1990.  Mabel married Herbert D. Vaughon in Kirkwood on December 30, 1990 and he died September 12, 2001.

Mabel worked at Gales Products in Galesburg for 28 years, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of the Maple City Baptist Church.

Surviving are her two daughter, Helen (Arthur) Hamman of Galesburg and Nancy Taylor-Mahaffey of Monmouth; two sons, William R (Nobuka) Smith of Corona, CA and Robert D. Smith of Galesburg; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, grandson, Greg Taylor; brother, William Grace.

Graveside services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, April 4, 2008 at Monmouth Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday afternoon at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where her family will be present from 1:00-2:30 P.M.
