Brooks, Dorothy M.

Dorothy M. Brooks, 82, of North Henderson, died 2:20 P.M. Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

She was born February 15, 1926 at Alexis, the daughter of Vern and Hazel (Driffel) Swiler.  She was raised and educated in the Alexis area and graduated from Alexis High School in 1944.

Dorothy married Dean Brooks on November 9, 1946 in Alexis and he preceded her in death on September 21, 2000.

Dorothy was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in the New Windsor, Burgess and North Henderson areas throughout their married years.  Her hobbies were reading and sewing.  She also loved to dance with her husband at the Roof Garden, and in later years at the Eagles and Elks Clubs in Galesburg.  She most enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a member of the North Henderson United Methodist Church.

Her family includes one daughter, Brenda (Steve) England of Oneida, one son Jeff (Carol) Brooks of North Henderson, 9 grandchildren, John Brooks, Kerry Roemer, Lauren Brooks, Jason Gilliland, Brooke Blythe, Grant Gilliland, Sarah Buffo, Keith England and Nelson England, 5 great-grandchildren, Anna Roemer, Aaron Gilliland, Samantha Gilliland, Betsy Roemer and Clay Roemer, 2 step-grandchildren, Michelle Parrish and Tiffany Munson and 5 step great grandchildren, Torie Parrish, Allie Parrish, Destini Munson, Alex Munson and Mikayla Munson and son-in-law, Tom (Judy) Gilliland of  Monmouth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Nancy Gilliland and three brothers, Leroy, Robert and John.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis with Rev. Carolyn Webber of the Oneida United Church.  Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery.  Friends may call after 3:00 P. M. on Monday, November 24 at Hoover-hall Memorial Chapel where her family will be present from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.  Memorials may be left for the American Leukemia Society.
