Mecum, cody Dean

Cody Dean Mecum, 15, of Monmouth died at 8:38 P.M. Thursday, December 18, 2008 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

He was born August 28, 1993 in Galesburg, IL the son of Ronie E. and Marla (Watts) Mecum.  Cody was currently a freshman at Monmouth-Roseville High School.

Cody was a big Chicago Cubs fan.  He participated in Special Olympics in the bowling, track and softball events.  He was a member of the Boys Scots Trop #352, Little League Challenger Division, Camp Kidz, enjoyed fishing and helped out with the Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High sports.

He is survived by his mother, Marla Mecum of Monmouth; four sisters, Tashelle Mecum of Peoria, and Marissa Mecum (Sidney Smart), Dominique Mecum and Victoria Mecum, all of Monmouth; two brothers, Keith Mecum of San Diego, Calif., and Matthew Mecum of Monmouth; two nieces, Jacelle Davis and Ja'Niyah Collins; maternal grandmother, Barbara (Snodgrass) Watts of Gerlaw; paternal grandparents, Roger and Diana Mecum of Grinnell, IA.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

 He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandfather and one uncle.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 22, 2008 at Monmouth-Roseville High School in Monmouth with Rev. Ken Muck officiating.  Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood.  Friends may call Sunday after Noon at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present from 1:00-4:00 P.M.  Memorials may be given to Special Olympics.
