Higgins, Patricia "Patti"
Patricia “Patti” Higgins, 57, of rural Alexis, died Thursday evening, January 29, 2009, the result of an accident east of Alexis.
She was born May 28, 1951 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Holder) Johnson. She was raised and educated in North Henderson and Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School in 1969. Patti attended Western Illinois University for 2 years and later graduated from Monmouth College Summa Cum Lade in 1988 with a Bachelors Degree in Education.
Patti married Dennis W. Higgins in North Henderson on November 25, 1970 and he survives.
Patti worked in social services at Cottonwood Health Care Center in Galesburg for 15 years and was currently at the Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg. She enjoyed scrap booking, traveling, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Norwood United Presbyterian Church and its circle where she sang in the church choir and played the piano. She also taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Mercer County Home Extension.
Survivors include her husband; 2 daughters, Wendi (Dustin) Steck of Oneida and Allison (Brian) Bernhardt of Alexis; 2 sons, Nathan (Jennifer) Higgins of Minooka, IL and Jeremy (Kristin) Higgins of Deerfield, WI; 7 grandchildren; her parents; 2 brothers, Jack( Jayne) Johnson of North Henderson and Scott (Paula) Johnson of Franklin Grove, IL; 2 sisters, Nancy (Jim VandeBogart) Johnson of Beloit, WI. and Julie (Robert) Stretch of Peoria, IL.; father in law, Herb Higgins of Galesburg; one sister in law, Ann (Dennis) Schwartzkopf of Atwood, CO.
She was preceded in death by her infant brother, James Johnson and grandparents.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the Norwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Agnes Brady officiating. Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, February 2, 2009 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where her family will be present from 5:00-7:00 P.M.
