Davies, Darol N.
Darol N. Davies, 84, of Monmouth died at 2:25 A.M. Friday, January 30, 2009 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.
He was born April 10, 1924 in Monmouth the son of Trevor J. and Kathryn A. (Jessen) Davies. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1942.
Darol served in the U.S. Army Stationed in Hawaii during World War II.
Darol married Verna Mae Pullen at the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth on December 22, 1948 and she died June 12, 1998.
He owned and operated T.J. Davies & Son with his father upon his return from service and later with his son, until he retired in 1990. He enjoyed dancing, music and spending time with his family. He loved growing roses. He also enjoyed going to Cardiac Rehab with his friends, and having breakfast with his friend, Willie. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears fan and Monmouth High School sports fan.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monmouth where he had served on various committees through the years, member of Marion B. Fletcher American Legion Post 136 where he was a Past Commander and had served on its Honor Squad and committees and was a member of the 40/8 of the American Legion.
His family includes his daughter, Marta (Mike) Rogers of Show Low, Arizona; one son, Rodney (Diane) Davies of Monmouth; one granddaughter, Alissa Davies of Pontiac, Michigan; one grandson, Trevor Jon (Edith Tomlin) Davies of Monmouth, Sisters-in-law, Carol Brissey and Barbara Gawthrop both of Galesburg, Linda Pullen and Martha (Don) Toland both of Monmouth and Eve Roberson of California along with several nieces and nephews..
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nadine Davies.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Monmouth with Rev. Jon Sims officiating. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to Western Illinois Animal Rescue, F-Wing at OSF Holy Family or the American Legion Post 136.
