Haar, Vigil G.

Virgil George Haar, 84, of Monmouth died at 4:53 P.M. Friday, February 06, 2009 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.

He was born October 28, 1924 in Sumner, Iowa the son of John and Gertrude (Clark) Haar.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, attending the Farmers Academy School and graduating from Monmouth High School.

Virgil married Maryedith Stauffer in Kirkwood on December 8, 1948 and she died March 30, 2004.

Virgil farmed in the Monmouth area for 49 years.  He loved his family, the land, friends and coffee at the Cottage Corner in Monmouth and the Chicago Cubs.  He was a well known softball pitcher in the Little York and Monmouth area and he always attended the Old Timers Games at Monmouth Park.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monmouth.

Survivors include one daughter, LaDonna (Ron) Green of Galesburg; three granddaughters, Jennie (Rod) Hatch of Edwards, IL, Katie (Clint) Banks of Pampa, TX and Laura (Josh Hubbard) Smith of Galesburg, IL; three great grandsons, Aizik Hatch, Noah Hubbard and Eli Hubbard; two great granddaughters, Sydnie Hatch and Whitney Banks; daughter in law, Marie Haar of Ocala, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Preston Haar; twin brothers Charles Haar and brother Ralph Haar.

Cremation has been accorded. No visitation or services are planned at this time.  Burial of cremated remains in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth will take place at a later date.  Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth is in charge of the local arrangements.
