Manuel John T .

John T. Manuel, 74, of Kirkwood, IL died at 12:25 A.M. Saturday, February 7, 2009 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.

He was born March 5, 1934 in Roseville, IL. the son of George and Margaret (Pope) Manuel.  He was raised and educated in Roseville.

John served with the United States Army from Jan 1952 until Dec. 1954.

John married Joyce Linze in Monmouth on November 6, 1959 and she survives.

John worked for 36 years at the Jefferson Smurfit in Galesburg, Farrs’ DX Company in Monmouth for 10 years.  He also worked as a farm hand for Jerry Woods for 32 years. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing and going to auctions.

He was of Methodist faith and was a member of the Monmouth American Legion Post #136.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Joyce; one daughter, Kathy (Steve) Lee of Monmouth; son, Ron (Deb) Manuel of Monmouth; grandchildren, Chad Manuel of Chicago, Melissa (Scott) Wiegand of Forest Park, IL and Justin Lee of Monmouth; great granddaughter, Izabella Wiegand; several nieces and nephews, along with his dog, Jax.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Scott Manuel and Dan Manuel.

Graveside committal services with Military Honors will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth.  Friends may call Tuesday morning until the services at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth.  Memorials may be given to the American Legion Nursing Scholarship or the Western Illinois Animal Rescue.  Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements
