Brown, Elmer W .

Elmer W. Brown, 89, of rural Galesburg died at 1:16 A.M. Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.

He was born August 11, 1919 in Galesburg the son of Walter and Jennie (Terpening) Brown.  He was reared and educated in Tomah, WI and Abingdon, IL.

Elmer was a carpenter and farmer. He was a former member of the Monmouth Barbershop Quartet and he enjoyed playing the piano and organ and also enjoyed dancing..

Elmer married Velma Reeser at the Alexis United Presbyterian Church on May 21, 1950 and she survives.

He was a member of the Alexis United Presbyterian Church and the Henderson Senior Center.

Elmer served with the United States Army with the Aviation Engineers during World War II from February 11, 1942 until October 9, 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Brown; one sister Alta (Jack) Bushong of Galesburg and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Alexis United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Phil Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery.  His family will be present to receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services.  Memorials may be given to the Alexis United Presbyterian Church.  Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis is in charge of the arrangements.
