Shike, Ione C.

Ione Christine Shike, 79, of Alexis, IL, died 7:39 PM, Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

She was born December 22, 1929, the daughter of Clarence & Myrtle (Johnson) Peterson.

Ione married Kenneth Lee Shike in Aledo on May 29, 1948 and he preceded her in death on December 2, 2004.

She was a homemaker and partner in farming with her family.  She loved cooking, gardening, sewing and bird watching.  She was devoted to her family and church.

Ione was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, North Henderson, Order of Eastern Star and P.E.O. Chapter G.

Her family includes one daughter, Linda (Richard) McKeown , two sons, Daryl Shike and Ron (Sue) Shike all of Alexis, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one sister, Gladys Carlson of Ventura, CA , three brothers, LaVerne (Marilyn) Peterson of Rio, IL, Harvey (Marilyn) Peterson of Aledo and Harry (Elaine) Peterson of Viola, and one sister-in-law, Lois (Richard) Gladson of Cedar Rapids, IA, along with nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter-in-law, Jane Shike.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Zion Lutheran Church, North Henderson with Rev. Jan Bengtson.  Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery.  Friends may call after noon on Sunday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis where her family will be present from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  Memorials may be left for Zion Lutheran Church or OSF Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
