Raymond E. Nesbitt, 79 of rural Alexis, IL died at 2:07 P.M. Sunday, July 19, 2009 at his home.

He was born May 4, 1930 in Alexis, IL the son of William A. and Edna G. (Smith) Nesbitt.  He was reared and educated in Alexis.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 until 1953 during the Korean War.

Raymond married Gertrude Powell in Monmouth on April 13, 1953 and she survives.

Raymond retired from BNSF Railroad in 1991 after 30 years.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, NASCAR, working outside and Pug dogs.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Transportation Communication International Union.

His family includes his wife, Gertrude, three sons, John William (Cindy) Nesbitt of Gladstone, Albert (Beth Lewis) Nesbitt of Grand Island, NE and Daniel Allen Nesbitt of Galesburg, 6 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren along with a numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis with Msgr Ernest Pizzamiglio of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday after 3:00 P.M. at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis where his family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.  Memorial may be left to the Donor’s Choice.
