Heady, Lorraine C .
Lorraine C. Heady,88, of Monmouth died at 6:43 A.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.
She was born February 24, 1921 in Hartford, CT the daughter of David and Catherine (Condron) Jacques. She was raised and educated in Windsor, CT where she graduated from Windsor High School and attended the Bay Path Institute in Springfield, MA.
During World War II Lorraine spent many weekends packaging bandages to be sent overseas
Lorraine married Herbert A. Heady in Colorado Springs, CO on August 4, 1942 and he died November 16, 1999.
She worked at the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Co in Hartford, CT; the Salem Times-Commoner in Salem, IL; Community Memorial Hospital in Monmouth and assisted her husband in the operation of a poultry farm in Newton, IL. She also was part owner, along with her father, brother and the family of John Hale, of the Millbrook Golf Course in Windsor, CT for many years. She enjoyed painting and received several awards for her artwork. She was an accomplished pianist. Lorraine loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and several foreign counties.
Lorraine was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth and the Altar and Rosary Society. She had been a lector, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Pastoral Care Committee. She was active in Cursillo in Christianity, a Catholic renewal movement. She served on the initial team for the Cursillo in Rock Island, IL; Geneva, Switzerland and Ottawa, IL. She was on the board of the Church Women United, Monmouth.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen (Lawrence Brown) Heady of Havertown, PA; 2 sons, Paul Heady of Anderson, CA and Brian Heady of Anchorage, Alaska; 4 granddaughters, Barbara Kirch, Mary Heady, Caley Heady and Brenna Heady; one great grandson, Tomas Sosin; two step grandchildren, William Brown and Nichols Brown; 3 nieces, 3 nephews and her two cats, Toby and Sissy.
She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Joan Heady in 1974 and one brother.
Mass of the Christian burial will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Anthony Co and Deacon William Clark. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth. Friends may call Friday, July 24, 2009 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where her family will be present from 6:00-7:30 P.M.
