McKay, Delmar L .

Delmar L. McKay, 95, of Monmouth, died 12:55 AM, Monday, July 27, 2009, at Monmouth Nursing Home.

Delmar was born July 1, 1914 in Buffalo Prairie, Mercer County, IL, the son of Robert and Clara McKay.

Delmar married Betty Carlson on October 7, 1945 at Monmouth and she preceded him in death on January 9, 1969.

He was a life long farmer in the Monmouth and Aledo areas, retiring in 1972.  In 1972 he started  McKay General Trucking, hauling grain and livestock, retiring in 1985.   He enjoyed spending time with family and bird watching.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Monmouth

His family includes three sons, Richard McKay of Monmouth, Gary (Ginny) McKay of Layton, Utah and Donald (Sandy) McKay of Monmouth, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandsons and 4 great granddaughters, one sister Laurene Fausett of Andalusia, IL and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Harold McKay

Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Friday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. Keith Killinger of the First Lutheran Church.  Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery.  Friends may call on Thursday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel. His family will receive friends at the home of Donald and Sandy McKay, 740 240th Ave., Monmouth from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday. Memorials may be left for Monmouth Nursing Home or the college fund for his great grandchildren.
