Lucas, Benjamin F .
Benjamin F. Lucas, 90, of Alexis died at 4:00 P.M. Friday, August 7, 2009 at the Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.
He was born February 27, 1919 in Roanoke, VA. the son of Frank William and Ida Mae (Firebaugh) Lucas and step-son of Lottie M. Lucas. He was raised and educated in Illinois.
Benjamin served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Benjamin worked on local farms in the Alexis area and lastly worked for the Alexis Fire Equipment Co. He enjoyed mowing yards.
He was a member of the James Harvey Scott American Legion Post #189 in Alexis.
Survivors include his step brother, William (Norma) Lucas of Alexis, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 1 step brother.
Graveside services and committal will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 11, 2009 in Alexis Cemetery with Rev. Lee Savage of the North Henderson United Methodist, followed by military honors presented by the James Harvey Scott Post #189 of Alexis. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Stephen McBride Memorial Fund.Online condolences may left at hooverhall.com.
