Sandstrom, Carolyn J .
Carolyn J. Sandstrom, 71, of Monmouth was called home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family at 3:35 A.M. Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
She was born October 9, 1937 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of Harlow B. and Florence C. (Hawkins) Swartout. She was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1955. She later attended Carl Sandburg College.
Carolyn married Dean C. Sandstrom on March 2, 1958 at the First Methodist Church in Galesburg and he survives.
She was a bank teller in Galesburg a bookkeeper for Spurgeons, Gibson, Newsland, WRAM, Monmouth Airport and Carlson Seed. She was also a clerk for Save-A-Lot before retiring in 1999.
Carolyn was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Monmouth. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, past member of the DAR, Mildred Warner Washington Chapter, and life member of the Galesburg Genealogy Society and a charter member of the Warren County Illinois Genealogical Society where she served as past president. She was a great great granddaughter of pioneer, Eli Farnham. She was also a past member of the Monmouth Flying Club. She was also a member of the Warren Co. Historical Museum and the Monmouth Hospital Auxiliary.
She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting and was an avid Cubs fan and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, 2 daughters, Cathy (David) Conry of El Granada, CA, Sandra (Todd) Dasso of Orange City, FL; two sons, Doug (Sara) Sandstrom of Ft. Huachuca, AZ. and Steve (Barb) Sandstrom of Monmouth; 8 grandchildren, Kimberlee, Alyssa, Jessica, Carl, Patrick, Christina, Matthew and Faith; 2 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Cameron; one brother Harlow B. Swartout, Jr. of Woodstock, IL; brother in laws, Bill Gresty of Palsbo, WA and David (Rose) Sandstrom of Roseville; nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Beatrice Gresty and Betty Larsen; one sister in law, Joann Swartout.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday morning where her family will be present from 9:00 until the time of the services. Memorials may be given to the Monmouth Public Library, Warren Co. Genealogical Society or the donors choice
