Johnson, Clarence "Curly"
Clarence Earl “Curly” Johnson, 81, of Knoxville, formerly of Alexis died at 12:45 A.M. Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
He was born September 14, 1827 in Burgess, Mercer Co. IL, the son of Clarence E. Sr. and Kathryn (Greenwood) Johnson.
Curly served with the US Army during WWII in the Pacific.
Curly farmed with his father near Alexis before working at Gates Rubber Co in Galesburg for 23 years. He collected antique cars owning a 1940 Ford Coupe and a 1948 Ford Club Coupe.
He was a member of the James Harvey Scott American Legion Post #189 in Alexis and several car clubs.
Surviving family include 1 brother, Donald (Erma) Johnson of Galesburg; 1 niece, Diana (Randy) Mason of Denver, CO. and 2 great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 24, 2009 in Alexis Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis is in charge of the arrangements.Online condolences may left at hooverhall.com.
