Adams, Robert
Robert E. Adams, 78, of Monmouth, died Monday afternoon, August 24, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 10, 1931, at Kewanee, IL, the son of Benjamin “Frank” and Bessie (Lee) Adams.
He was raised and educated in Monmouth, where he graduated from Monmouth High School in 1949.
Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an Airplane Mechanic.
Robert married Nancy Patricia Arthur in Monmouth on August 27, 1955 and she preceded him in death on December 22, 1993.
He first worked at Thompson’s Motors in Monmouth and then owned and operated Adams Oil Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed gardening and music. He was known for his hickory smoked ribs.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Monmouth.
His family includes three daughters, Nancy (Chris Kidder) Cook of Monmouth, Rosemary (Rick) Rathjen of Colona, IL and Lucille (Scott) Brownell of Mexico, NY, two sons Robert (Kim) Adams of Monmouth and Tim Adams of Chicago,11 grandchildren, Elizabeth “Lisa” Cook of Monmouth, Allison Cook of Monmouth, Robert Cook of Monmouth, Frances Cook of Burlington, IA, Colton Conard of Monmouth, Benjamin “Ben” Adams of Kirkwood, Renee Rathjen of Springfield, Rachael Rathjen of Colona, Elizabeth “Beth” Brownell of Mexico, NY, Victoria “Tori” Brownell of Mexico, NY and Clarence John Brownell of Mexico, NYand 2 great grandchildren and his special coffee friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 28, 2009 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Deacon Will Clark of Immaculate Conception Church. Cremation will follow the services with burial in Warren County Memorial Park at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 31, 2009. Friends may call on Thursday at Hoover-Hall Memorial where his family will be present from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
