Liggett, Harold E .

Harold E. Liggett, 87, of Galesburg, formerly of Alexis, died at 10:05 P.M. Wed. November 25, 2009 at the Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg, IL.

He was born June 3, 1922 in Alexis, the son of Ralph and Georgia (Minor) Liggett. He was raised and educated in Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School in 1940 and from Brown’s Business College in 1941 and then worked in a bank in Aledo before serving in the U. S. Navy for 4 years during World War II.

Harold married Evelyn Armstrong February 21, 1943 in Chicago and she preceded him in death on February 21, 2009.

Following his service in the Navy, Harold returned to Alexis to farm until he retired  in 1999.  He enjoyed Bible Studies and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.

He was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church, Galesburg.

His family includes four children, Carrie (Ken) Cina of Sussex, WI, Bob (Anita) Liggett of Hot Springs Village, AR, Nancy Lundquist of Galesburg and Dan (Lauren) Liggett of Houston, TX, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister and brother-in-law, Ethel Mae (Earl) Agan, and one son-in-law, James Lundquist.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Harmony Baptist Church, Galesburg with Rev. Robert Eshleman officiating.  Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church.   Memorials may be left for the Harmony Baptist Church or the Galesburg Rescue Mission.  Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis is in charge of the arrangements.
