Robert E. Mills

Robert E. Mills 86, of Little York died at 6:10 P.M. Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Monmouth Nursing Home.

He was born Oct. 28, 1923 in Cameron, IL the son of Harry B. and Hilma S. (Anderson) Mills.  He was raised  in the Coldbrook area and attended Frymire School and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1942.

Robert married Marjorie J. Gavin in Little York, Il on Jan. 25, 1952 and she survives.

He served with the Illinois National Guard.

Robert first farmed east of Gerlaw then did custom bulldozing and raised livestock.  He later moved and farmed north of Little York.  In his younger years Robert showed cattle.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting Indian artifacts and was a devoted Yorkwood sports supporter.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, a 4-H leader, served on the Little York School Board, a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau and the Rural Youth.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Bruce (Susan) Mills of Little York, Rex Mills of Gilson; 1 daughter, Susan (David) Icenogle of Belleville, IL; 9 grandchildren, Tony Mills, Jacob Mills, Rachel Mills, John Mills, Tory Mills, Cort Mills, Tanner Icenogle, Tyler Icenogle, and Hillary Icenogle; 7 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Harry B. Mills Jr., Donald (Marian) Mills and Jim Mills; 1 sister, Betty (Raymond) Bruyn all of Monmouth; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mildred Ryner.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Pastor Paul Lydic of the Gerlaw Christian Church officiating.  Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, March 5, 2010 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present from 6:00-8:00 P.M.  Memorials may be given to the Monmouth Nursing Home
